KUALA LUMPUR: A police report was lodged against Election Commission chairman Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the last-minute cancellation of the use of indelible ink in the general election on March 8.
The report was lodged by the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) and National Institute for Electoral Integrity (NIEI) after Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar told Parliament that the decision to cancel the use of the indelible ink was based on ‘hearsay’ received by the police.
A Bersih spokesman, Faisal Mustaffa said Abdul Rashid announced at a press conference that the use of indelible ink was scrapped after some irresponsible people had smuggled in the ink. The report was lodged at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
