Press Release (2 August 2019): BERSIH 2.0 fundraising dinner raises RM197,528.50

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH 2.0) wishes to update the public on the current tally of our “Securing Reform, Support BERSIH 2.0” fundraising campaign after the first phase of campaign, which is the fundraising dinner held on 20 July 2019 at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

As of 2 August 2019, we have successfully raised RM197528.50 nett after deducting the cost of the fundraising dinner of RM30,021.50. Of the total amount raised, RM106,200 was from ticket sales for the dinner and another RM121,350 was donation from the public. A special thank you to political cartoonist Zunar for contributing a sketch that was auctioned and fetched a price of RM1,700 during the dinner.

We would also like to thank all individuals who bought tickets and attended our fundraising dinner and those who have donated to us. With your generous support, we have now reached 14.1% of our fundraising target, which is RM1.4 million for the programs in 2019-2020, in this first phase of fundraising campaign. We will organise more different fundraising activities in future, including a crowdfunding campaign, to hit the target.

We would also like to register our gratitude to the three guest speakers at the fundraising dinner, Clare Rewcastle Brown, Ambiga Sreenevasan and Maria Chin Abdullah, although Maria Chin Abdullah did not make it due to illness. A special thanks to national laureate Pak Samad, stand up comedian Phoon Chi Ho and Aku Street Band for performing at the dinner as well.

BERSIH 2.0 will be launching a second phase of our fundraising campaign soon with the aim of reaching 50% (RM700,000) of our fundraising target in 2019 while another 50% (RM700,000) in 2020.
