KUALA TERENGGANU: A student of a religious school surrendered himself to police after his picture came out in a newspaper along with eight other people who had been asked to come forward to help over the Saturday night’s riot in Batu Burok.
The 16-year-old student from Kampung Tok Dir, Bukit Payung, walked into the district police headquarters here, holding a local newspaper with his picture.
It is learnt that the Form Four student came alone to the police station at about 10.21am.
State Deputy CID chief Supt Khairi Ahrasa said the police would probe into the student’s involvement in the riot.
Police also hoped to zoom in on the person responsible for torching the Malaysian flag.
Supt Khairi said the police had also obtained the names and addresses of the other eight.
“We will release the names of another 20 individuals who can help facilitate our investigation by Tuesday (tomorrow),” he said.
