The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH2.0) is concerned with the current political situation where several elected representatives are switching parties.
BERSIH2.0 would like to state our position on the issue, as follows:
(1) BERSIH2.0 is against party switching by elected representatives after elections. This is against the principle of elections where the representative was chosen by the voters on the basis his/her party affiliation, principles, and manifesto;
(2) If elected representatives wish to change their position with regards to the party that he/she represents, the elected representative must resign and vacate the constituency, and allow voters to decide on their choice of new representative; and
(3) With regards to the case of Sarawak, in the 2016 Sarawak State Election, Sarawak voters gave their mandate to BN to form the state government. Any changes of position or coalition in state should be done via a fresh election process.
